December 2006

Dear friend:

We hope you had a good crop this year and are able to sell your production for some better prices. It will soon be time to make spring planting decisions. Here is some information that might help you.

We have the following varieties of seed available at this time. If you are interested in other varieties, we can usually direct you to a supply or else bring some in to our yard for you to pick up here.

* WHEAT

SUPERB - This has proven to be the best yielding hard red spring wheat for both irrigation and dryland (assuming the sawflies didn't get it). On irrigation, it will likely dominate the production area for a few more years.

Superb Technical Bulletin Available here [PDF format]

AC INFINITY An excellent new wheat variety for dryland. It is an awnless variety that is a few days earlier than Superb and a few inches taller. It appears to yield slightly better and have higher protein. It has been accepted by Warburton's for their contracting program. The straw is a bit too weak for irrigated production.

AC RADIANT WINTER WHEAT It is an exciting variety that is resistant to the wheat curl mite. These are the insects that spread wheat streak mosaic virus from green wheat plants to emerging winter wheat plants in September. It has good straw strength and yield, so is great for irrigation as well as dryland.

* DURUM

AC® STRONGFIELD Very good yields, good lodging resistance, large kernel size and very good shatter resistance make this an excellent durum variety.

AC MORSE This is still an excellent choice for irrigation because it has better lodging resistance than AC® Strongfield.

* PEAS

  • CDC GOLDEN YELLOW PEA This is a new pea variety that has everything going for it. It stands well, yields well, has powdery mildew resistance, medium size seed and strong seed coat. The seed is affordable because there are no royalties on seed sales.

  • CDC SAGE GREEN PEA This variety has the best rating for standability and is resistant to powdery mildew. It also has a good rating for seed coat breakage and resistance to bleaching. No royalties on this variety either!

TOPEKA This is a yellow pea that is resistant to powdery mildew. It is early, high yielding and rated moderate for standability.

* CHICKPEAS

  • CDC DIVA This variety has the largest seed size of all the kabuli types.

* FORAGE SEEDS
